About

Twenty years of asking what the room has to do.

Jennifer Marcoz is a commercial interior designer and space planner. She learned merchandising and traffic flow inside IKEA's corporate design organization, took an MBA in project management, and has spent the decade since running her own practice on projects from $250K to more than $20M.

Not a decorator

The distinction matters commercially. Decoration makes a space look a certain way. Planning makes it work a certain way, traffic, sightlines, dwell time, how a prospect moves through a leasing tour, where a resident actually chooses to sit.

Her aim is a room that feels right because it satisfies the functional and psychological needs of the person in it, whether or not they could name a single thing you did. That is a measurable outcome, not a taste argument, which is why the clients are developers and operators rather than homeowners.

The IKEA years are the reason. Planning stores across North America, Europe and China is an education in how strangers move through space at volume, and in designing to a merchandising objective rather than a personal preference.

The white T-shirt philosophy

Have you ever walked through Bloomingdale’s and seen a plain white T-shirt from Gucci, Prada, or Fendi selling for $200? The same exact T-shirt you can find at Target for one-tenth of the price?

The added benefits of a $200 white T-shirt, if there are any, are not going to affect your outfit, or people’s perception of your outfit, any more than the $20 shirt would. So why pay more just to pay more?

While it is imperative that clients invest wisely in staple pieces, it is just as imperative that I maximize their budget with well thought out alternatives without compromising taste or quality. In most instances the end result is not only the same, but better.

When we can both look at a finished project and feel it succeeded not on designer labels but on visual and financial creativity, the white T-shirt philosophy was at work.

JENNIFER MARCOZ

The working model

Design Marc Interiors is a Florida practice based in Tampa, Florida, USA, serving developers and operators across the United States. Engagements are 1099 contract, project-based or retainer, and fully remote.

Design production runs from her own studio in Spain, six hours ahead of Eastern. That gap is deliberate and it is the practical advantage of working with her: markups sent at the end of your day are worked overnight and back in your inbox before your morning standup. Mornings Eastern, 8:00 AM to noon, stay open for live calls.

No supervision required, no team to manage, no drafting to check. She scopes her own work, holds her own schedule, and hands your project manager finished packages.
